Merry? Now there’s a word that never gets
used much except during Christmas time. The word "merry" means
to be happy and something more. Have you ever said merry in a sentence
like; “I had a merry date,” or “it’s very merry to see you again," not very likely. I don’t even think that my own wedding was merry. Sure I was very happy and even
euphoric, but I don't think that the word "merry" describes how I felt. It’s also true that "merry" can be
used to describe some negative things like drunken revelry. For instance, you can say, “A group of merry
drunks broke into a merry tune, then merrily went on their way to find another
bar.” But at Christmas time, saying Merry Christmas to someone is about wishing them love and great
joy and fellowship on the special day that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. I
only wish that the sentiments that go along with Christmas such as "Peace on Earth and Goodwill to All Men" were much truer and more evident then they appear to be on Earth.
